Can you clarify the fermentable fiber recommendations and timing when doing the botanical protocol? One handout says to wait, and other info said to add at the same time as treatment.

Laura Schoenfeld:   Julie, can you tell me when you say one handout says to wait and other info? Is it...

If someone is lacking zinc in her diet, and you wanted to add in as a supplement for someone with acne, in what form, what dose, and for how long would you give this supplement?

Laura Schoenfeld:  So with zinc, it kind of depends on the person’s diet and if she is getting a good...

As far as K2 is concerned, my understanding is that MK-4 is the most easily used form when naturally occurring in food, but the only MK-4 I’ve found in supplements is synthetic. I try to avoid synthetic nutrients if possible, and I’ve read that synthetic MK-4 is used differently and less efficiently in the body than when it is consumed in whole food form. MK-7 supplements derived from natto seem like the best choice to me, but the amounts are so much lower in supplements. I guess I’m confused about the dosage of MK-7 versus MK-4 in supplement form, especially when trying to overcome a deficiency. Any thoughts on the subject? I see Chris sells the Thorne brand that has D and K2 that has the synthetic MK-4 in it.

Laura Schoenfeld: Yes, the supplemental form of MK-4 is always going to be synthetic. I’m not exactly why the reason...

What is your take on 400 IU of vitamin E as d-alpha tocopheryl succinate in even many good quality prenatals? She’s thinking specifically of the Nutrient 950 with K that Chris recommends.

Laura Schoenfeld: Vitamin E is not something you typically want to be supplementing with. Alpha-tocopherols are not the optimal form....

Prebiotics increase the beneficial gut bacteria that are already there. Probiotics don’t except maybe the SBOs like Prescript-Assist. Correct?

Laura Schoenfeld: I don’t know if probiotics don’t at all. I know that they’re not as effective as prebiotics for...

You said you usually prefer GOS as a prebiotic because it’s better tolerated by most, but also use FOS as well. For whom or when do you recommend FOS?

Kelsey Marksteiner:   With prebiotics and fibers, in general, in terms of their effect on microbiome health, you really do want...

What are some antifungal enzymes?

Laura Schoenfeld:  I typically would use is called Candex. Let me send you a link to that. Now, it’s not...

I just listened to your and Laura’s wonderful Ask the RD podcast on probiotics. You mentioned a list you have on all the strains of probiotics and what they specifically are researched and proved to treat. I wondered if you would be happy to share this list with us.

Kelsey Marksteiner:  Actually I got that list from my professor in my master’s degree at University of Western States, who...

I went on the Probiotic Advisor website, which I was so excited to hear existed. I was going to pay the subscription for access but did the first-day free trial to check it out, but the only access I got was a search box, and everything I put into the search box didn’t come up with anything very fruitful. I can’t remember exactly what I put in there. Is that the only way you get to explore the information, or was I doing it wrong?

Kelsey Marksteiner:  Yeah, it is just a search box. Obviously if you’re searching super-specific and it just simply has not...

What do you think about a severe headache after taking Prescript-Assist? A histamine response perhaps?

Kelsey Marksteiner:  I haven’t had anybody have that sort of response. I’m trying to think because I don’t really think...
