In your research of CBD, did you see any risks in triggering more than just fear and anxiety? I’m curious because of adverse reactions I’ve seen in a few people where they’ve been scared away from it entirely. I wonder if some people are poor metabolizers or perhaps have an intolerance to CBD. Any thoughts?

Chris Kresser: Yeah, I have seen some adverse reactions, and even though CBD is not technically psychoactive in the way...

I did a Doctor’s Data test on a 12-year-old patient referred to me because she is very underweight. All the markers on the test are normal, including 3s or 4s for all the beneficial bacteria with the exception of having few microscopic yeast and a stool pH of 5.8. The question is whether you would treat the yeast and what the significance of the low stool pH is?

Chris Kresser:  Yes, I would probably treat the yeast because this patient may be malabsorbing nutrients and calories. A...

I saw somewhere in the course material that asthma can be associated with HPA-D. Having suffered from asthma for many years, I’d be interested in a summary of the pathogenesis, if you don’t mind, especially related to allergic-type asthma. I took a saliva test a year or so ago, which showed low free cortisol, but I put a lot of that down to an accidental low-carb diet combined with CrossFit. Having addressed these things, I feel generally better, but the asthma still comes and goes, so I’d love to take it further. I plan to do a DUTCH test when I can afford it, and I’ve addressed gut issues. Any go-to supplements would be very welcome.

Chris Kresser:  So, you probably know this term neuroimmunoendocrinology. It’s quite a mouthful, but it’s a term that a lot...

Would you mind going over Kavinace in detail again? I’m reading conflicting info on the phenylbutyric acid as habit forming and questionable of crossing the blood-brain barrier.

Chris Kresser: So, I think I mentioned this earlier. I know there is a lot of controversy about this. Here...

Can you clarify the recommendations for adding supplemental fiber during the treatment phase, dysbiosis, or botanicals? The video says to hold after treatment, and the fiber handout says to use or vice versa. Just trying to understand what is best. I have a few patients who get bloated with partially hydrolyzed guar gum.

Chris Kresser:  Well, with SIBO treatment, we include the guar gum because of the studies that I shared with you...

A 23-year-old with severe allergies, loss of oral tolerance, Lyme, mold, and biotoxins. A question about helminthic therapy, which I’ve used myself in the past, and I’ve seen patients who use as well.

Chris Kresser:  There are different ways to do this. There is the trichuris suis, or TSO, which is the pig...

How do you advise to take MotilPro?

Chris Kresser:  We just advise to take it one capsule two to three times a day with meals. Here’s my...

I took nystatin for only two days and developed an allergic itchy rash over my whole body which lasted for a week. Is this more likely a reaction to the medication or a die-off reaction? Given the reaction, I’m slightly reluctant to try nystatin again.

Chris Kresser:  I don’t blame you. It’s tough to say. I’m not sure it’s always one or the other. It...

Maybe I’m jumping ahead of myself here, as this will probably be covered in more detail in the blood chemistry portion, but how do you determine who’s a hyper-responder—familial hypercholesterolemia or ApoE4 genotype—to dietary cholesterol and saturated fat?

Chris Kresser:  Basically, as I said earlier, if you address all of the other underlying issues and the patient still...

We’ve touched on peripheral neuropathy a few times with discussion of vitamin B12, SIBO, etc., but I’m more curious about your clinical experience. Specifically, have you had patients who came to you specifically with neuropathy as their chief complaint, and especially chemo-induced neuropathy? What did you do with them, and what sort of outcomes have you seen?

Chris Kresser:  Definitely neuropathy. Not a lot of chemo-induced neuropathy. So certainly B12, SIBO, other gut issues can be a...
