How do you treat febrile seizure in an 18-month-old?

Chris Kresser: That’s something, again, I don’t have very much experience with, in part because I don’t actually treat patients under two years old. Pediatrics, as a general rule, as we talked about, it’s a different ball of wax, even for kids that are over two years old, but for kids that are under two years old, it’s even more important to have specific experience in that realm.

Febrile seizure is not something that I’ve really looked into from a functional medicine perspective. I had one patient who was two-and-a-half or three years old with intermittent fever. I’m forgetting the name of the condition right now. It’s an autoimmune condition that presents with intermittent fevers and flushing, things like that. We were able to resolve a lot of that with an autoimmune Paleo diet alone, with very few supplements other than some probiotics. As an 18-month-old, she may or may not still be breastfeeding, but you could also try an autoimmune Paleo type of diet, and that would probably be my first starting place in that situation.
