Dr. Amy Nett: Yeah, so actually great question. When Chris goes through and finds the case studies, he’s actually pulling from all of the CCFM patients. So some of the patients he’s pulling from are patients I’ve worked with, and we could only find the one case of Addison’s out of all CCFM patients, which I think include Dr. Schweig’s patients, my patients, and Chris’s patients as well. So I think it’s just rare. I don’t know that it’s a misdiagnosis. I think we’re honestly just not seeing that many cases of Addison’s. So, yeah, I don’t have any more experience beyond that and in terms of how efficacious a functional medicine approach is. So I wish I had more on that and we certainly wish we had more case examples.
Anthony just added that from his clinic, he only has one Addison’s patient also. And Anthony, I’m guessing that’s also out of several hundred patients if not 1,000 or more, which I think our database is something like 1,200, 1,500 patients. I don’t know, it’s constantly growing. But I would say over a thousand and then Brent added that he has one patient out of about a thousand as well. So I’m sure someone could Google the incidents of Addison’s in the general population and it might just be that it really is that rare.
When we’re looking at the spectrum of really severe HPA axis dysfunction and cortisol issues, I would say we see more Cushing’s or really more pseudo-Cushing’s. So on the other end of the spectrum. But yeah, not much in the way of Addison’s. So if anyone sees more Addison’s cases, send them in, maybe post them onto the Facebook group if you can make it HIPAA compliant. Because it’s just not that common and good for all of us to get a little more clarification on that. So great questions.
