I would like to run the immunoglobulin panel on a very clean Cyrex test that didn’t correlate with the clinical picture, so can you confirm what test this is? I’ve never ordered it before. On Quest, there’s a serum immunoglobulin panel. I’m assuming that’s it.
Dr. Amy Nett: Yeah, I would just run a serum immunoglobulin panel. Whenever you look at a test on Quest...
If someone is taking 10 milligrams per day of hydrocortisone, specifically a bioidentical cortisol, would change or alter the various Cyrex Array testing results?
Dr. Amy Nett: Absolutely, it will. Hydrocortisone, or cortisol, it suppresses the immune system, and specifically cortisol is going to...
How do you test for zonulin production?
Dr. Amy Nett: Great question. This is something that we haven’t really been doing too much. As far as I...
What type of panel measures immunoglobulin production?
Dr. Amy Nett: If you see notably low levels of secretory IgA, and in the particular case that Chris showed...
Received some differing information about when to order Cyrex panel and told by a few physicians that it’s good idea to run a total antibody test before running Cyrex panels. If they’re not creating enough antibodies, then the Cyrex test will show false negatives and be a waste of money. Do you do this? If vitamin D levels are low same thing can happen, is that true? Can you clarify, and do you run these arrays after Paleo reset as this would be 30 days without the wheat, dairy, etc., so antibody shows up? Your web information says it may be within 25 to 30 days. Client who has presented with what may be herpes dermatitis. He’s gone on the 30-day reset. Without the gluten, his skin is clearing up. Should he do Arrays 3 and 4 but don’t want to initiate skin outbreak again if he eats some wheat or gluten for test purposes.
Chris Kresser: Okay. All good questions. Let’s start with the first one. It is true that if the patient is...
In terms of DNA PCR testing, what about the DSL GI-MAP? There is a very famous lab whose results were discredited, and a lot of practitioners stopped using them. However, a number of those same practitioners get behind the DSL GI-MAP. The founders of the company speak on podcasts, and it seems like they’ve addressed a lot of criticism on PCR testing. Thoughts?
Chris Kresser: As far as I can tell, they’re still using those same methodologies actually and the same kit from...
The second test of Cyrex Array 22, which is a blood test, any thoughts on accuracy or clinical utility? Obviously, if accurate, it would be a lot easier and more feasible for most people to do than the breath test with all of its various preparation procedures.
Chris Kresser: SIBO is a condition that by definition involves certain values on a breath test or certain values on...
Chris is great at debunking medical myths. What are your thoughts on My Blood Analysis? I know this is regarded as fake medicine from the mainstream, and blood is highly controlled by the body, but is there any diagnostic or assessment value in My Blood Analysis?
Chris Kresser: Not that I’ve seen. I say show me the research. I’ve never seen any research that supports it....
What heavy metal test do you recommend?
Dr. Amy Nett: Most often, I do Quicksilver. You can do the mercury tri-test, and you need to species it...
I heard you on some SIBO videos talk of some clients who came in with high cholesterol, and when eradicating SIBO, their cholesterol numbers regulated. Can you explain this connection? Am I to assume SIBO is causing systemic inflammation leading to vessel damaging, and cholesterol is produced in excess because of vessel injury? What are other direct or indirect connections?
Chris Kresser: In short, among the mechanisms that we’ll discuss, one is intestinal permeability, and the other is infection. Another...
