Dr. Amy Nett:  Maca isn’t something that I have a lot of experience with. You should remember that maca is considered an adaptogen. So just as with the other adaptogens, you probably want to use when cortisol is already high. Chris doesn’t really care for maca in general because he thinks it has a pretty strong effect on the sex hormones, especially in women. And interesting that you noted that this actually disrupted your menstrual cycle. So again pretty notable effects on most women in terms of their hormone levels. Sometimes it might be favorable, but that’s not necessarily what we’re looking for, especially when it comes to adrenal support. So I know Chris avoids it for that reason. If we want to do something more targeted specifically to affect hormones, we might go with some other supplements, but he doesn’t use maca and I really haven’t experimented with it. So and hopefully in the protocol section for week 28, in that treatment protocol, there will be enough other supplements that you can consider for adrenal support that you won’t need to rely on some that include maca.
