Chris Kresser: So I think you mean ubiquinone versus ubiquinol. They’re different forms of CoQ10. Dr. Mercola makes a big deal about this, but I’m not sure if that’s because he sells ubiquinol or if it’s well-founded. It’s a great question and I’ve looked into it and the research is conflicting. It is a little hard to make sense out of it because a lot of the research on the benefits of ubiquinone over ubiquinol are sponsored by companies that make ubiquinol or have people on their advisory board that are involved with those companies. And so it’s a bit murky. Studies have shown benefits with both ubiquinone and ubiquinol. There are some other forms like MitoQ which claimed to be even better absorbed than ubiquinol. And then there’s idebenol, which is a synthetic form of CoQ10, or idebenone, excuse me. And that’s a synthetic form of CoQ10 and it’s used by some people who have treated mitochondrial disorders, so there are a lot of forms to choose from. I have mostly used ubiquinol and I use like the QH-Absorb form from GRL typically and find that that works well. And I think overall the research does sort of lean toward ubiquinol being better absorbed and I’ve seen good results with that. So I’ve just stuck with that.
