So we have a patient who has Helicobacter pylori. Do you treat only the patient or also his or her spouse?

Dr. Amy Nett:  Great question. I actually test household members. So anyone living in the house over probably 30 or 35 years old I’ll test for Helicobacter pylori and I’ll generally wait to start treatment in the patient until we know whether or not the other person is infected. And then if they’re both infected, then I’ll treat both people. But I try to treat both people at once so that it doesn’t get passed back and forth. Great question.
