I noticed that Iberogast has licorice root in it. Any idea of what the dose is? It’s only part of a proprietary blend. Is this taken into consideration when given to HPA patients?

Dr. Amy Nett: No, I don’t know what the dose is because, as you mentioned, it’s proprietary, but I think it’s a pretty low dose. You’re taking a relatively small amount of the Iberogast, and it has quite a few bitter herbs in it. I haven’t had anyone report that they find the Iberogast to be particularly stimulating as with higher-dose licorice root. I suppose if someone is really sensitive, he probably could be, but it isn’t something that has come up. I’ve had a lot of people on Iberogast, and I don’t think that anyone has found it particularly stimulating. If someone is super sensitive to licorice root, be aware, but again, we have a lot of patients taking it in the evening around dinnertime or just before bed. They seem to do well, so from that, I would sort of infer that it’s a pretty low dose of licorice root, but I don’t know the dose.
