  4. I did a Cyrex Array 4, I’m only finding a case of morphine antibodies in the equivocal range. I’m on week three of the protocol to get rid of many Blastocystis hominis parasites, I’m doing the reset diet with it. After I heal and seal my gut, could I provocate with dairy again, do the test over, and see if I’m still producing antibodies? Or is it recommended that I go off dairy like I had with gluten for the rest of my life? Designs for Health also has a product called Digestzymes that claims it can help break down casomorphin. So could that be added later if I do eat dairy? And if there are circumstances in my life that can create leaky gut, would it be suggested that I stay away from dairy on those days because of the potential of my immune system being sparked up again?

Chris Kresser:  Yeah, good question. We talked about this a little bit in the Cyrex testing weeks and my answer is a little different than Cyrex’s answer. So Cyrex says that if you test positive for any antigen that’s cross-reactive with gluten, then you should remove it forever. So that includes dairy and some of the other antigens on Array 4. I am not so sure about that. And I have actually seen people who we have successfully treated and then we’ve retested later and they were no longer intolerant of dairy. So I think it’s worth a try and the worst case is that it doesn’t improve and that you continue to be intolerant of it. And in that situation it may be necessary to abstain from dairy. But then again, if the casomorphin antibodies are equivocal, they’re not actually super-elevated. And I know we’ve talked about considering equivocal results as positive, but you haven’t mentioned whether you have symptoms when you consume dairy. You could also, if you don’t have symptoms and you’ve addressed all these other issues, and the antibodies are still low in the equivocal range, and they’re not affecting any of your other blood work or lab test results at all, it might be harder to justify total elimination on that basis. So there’s really a bit of experimentation and trial and error that you could do here before making that decision.
