Chris Kresser: Next question from Liz, “For someone [doing] intermittent fasting, how do you recommend doing the botanical protocol? Does the time of day matter? Is it more important that some amount of food be taken with products that are at lunch and dinner?”
No, it’s fine. Lunch and dinner is fine. Some people can even take the products that are supposed to be on a full stomach on an empty stomach. Mostly, that is about avoiding potential for nausea and stuff like that, [which] sometimes people can get from taking too many herbs and vitamins and minerals when they don’t have any food in their stomach, but some people are able to take that stuff and be fine, so [there’s] really no issue at all if they take them at lunch and dinner instead of breakfast and dinner. With medication, that’s a little bit different. You want some spacing of the medication to ensure consistent blood level, so the timing would be more important there.
