Reading from this week’s recommendations, wondering if acetyl-CoA is connected to the supplement from the HPA dysfunction protocol acetyl-CH. Taking it, and I realize I don’t know much about the mechanisms by which we think it works.

Chris Kresser: Acetyl-CH is related in the sense that it’s really targeting acetylcholine. But it’s not the same and it’s kind of a, the acetyl-CH within the HPA axis unit is aimed especially at regulating hippocampal function. And hippocampal function may play a role in regulating the circadian rhythm. So we talked about how the regulatory mechanisms for the production of cortisol reside in the brain and the central nervous system. So acetyl-CH is essentially targeting the brain mediated regulation of cortisol production and in particular the diurnal rhythm. So we would use acetyl-CH when a patient has a disrupted diurnal rhythm. In particular, in their other situations where it can be helpful, like when brain fog is prominent and they have trouble with cognition, I found acetyl-CH to be really helpful in those situations.
