Chris Kresser: Yeah, I’m still not convinced about the allergens. The research is mixed whether you’re looking at gluten or other allergens. And again, if you think about it from an evolutionary perspective and you look what traditional hunter–gatherers do, they’re usually towards the longer end in terms of introducing solid foods. But I also think that there are individual variations like in systems like baby-led weaning, which I think is a good approach. To some extent the kid decides, the baby decides when he or she is ready for solid food, and some babies may be interested in solid food at five months, and others may not be at all until six or seven months. And I’ve seen that definitely in patients and just talking to patients with young babies, and also in our community here. So I don’t know that I would, I think what I would say in terms of what’s changed is that I don’t know that there is a hard and fast rule that applies to every baby. I’m not totally sold on the introduction of allergens early yet because I think the research is more mixed and nuanced than has been let on there.

- n Healthy Baby Code, you talk about introducing foods at six months and not introducing any potential allergens or gluten. Pediatricians are now recommending starting solids at four to six months and recommend introducing allergens. What are your thoughts on this? I know you put together a program a while ago. I don’t know if you changed any of your thoughts.
