Chris Kresser: The main thing is timing and timing related to compliance. So it’s a hard thing to just eat nothing but potatoes for three days straight for most people. And so one of the variations that some of my patients have found to be easier and that Tim still refers to in his book is called Potatoes by Day or PBD. And in that case, they would eat potatoes from dawn until dusk and then they would have a normal Paleo type of dinner. And particularly for people that work and they’re busy throughout the day and their attention is elsewhere, it can be easier for them to just eat potatoes throughout the day. And then at night they get to sit down and have a normal dinner with their family. And in terms of compliance, I found that that is the best approach for many patients.
Now keep in mind it’s really up to the patient how aggressive they want to be and how quickly they want to lose weight or how if they’d rather make it something that they can sustainably follow for a longer period of time, they can do variations like potatoes by day and then they can also do, they could do potatoes by day for four days a week. And then eat normally for three days a week. Now in that situation they’d probably lose weight not as quickly as if they did three to four days of only potatoes. But speed is not necessarily important. It depends on the patient and what their situation is.
