Dr. Amy Nett: Great question. I like True Health Diagnostic, mostly for the cardiovascular disease risk assessment. I think True Health Diagnostic is pretty unique in terms of looking at oxidized LDL and Lp(a) particle number, but if the only thing I’m looking at is blood sugar dysregulation, I actually use the LabCorp or Quest because those are generally going to be applicable towards patient deductibles and are often even covered by insurance. If you want to look at blood sugar dysregulation, I would use LabCorp or Quest, and you can order fructosamine, you can order fasting insulin, glucose, and hemoglobin A1c. Those are the four markers that I normally use to track blood sugar balance and I use to monitor in terms of whether or not we’re making changes to macronutrients or incorporating intermittent fasting or sort of changing the way that the patient is eating. Those are the markers that I use. I think LabCorp or Quest is the way to go there anyway.

- I’m looking for an alternative to the True Health Diagnostic testing for the metabolic work-up. I am a chiropractor and True Health at this time does not allow chiropractors to order. Is there another lab I could look into that is close to the True Health testing for the metabolic workup including fructosamine, fasting insulin, etc., for blood sugar dysregulation?

- I know fasting is important for accurately obtaining certain labs such as lipid panel, iron panel, homocysteine. Are there any other labs that come to mind that you would want patients to be fasting for? Obviously, people will be fasting for the initial blood panel. I just want to make sure when doing follow-up testing, I know when fasting is required and when it’s not.
