I really don’t get how that works to normalize things once the diet is completed.

Chris Kresser: Well, you can refer to studies like I’m sure you saw a few years ago a study on very extreme low-calorie diet like 800 calories a day basically cures diabetes in subset of patients. So they did this extreme calorie restriction and they lost a ton of weight and their glucose and lipids and everything normalized. And then when they resumed their normal eating patterns they didn’t, their markers didn’t change. So it does seem to be possible. Like it basically comes down to a metabolic, a reset of the body fat set point I think. And some of the other regulatory mechanisms that govern blood sugar and other metabolic parameters. So it’s a really interesting thing and we don’t really know why that happens in some people and why it doesn’t happen as reliably in other people, unfortunately.
