Any suggestions for products or sprays for pregnant women experiencing yeast patches on stomach, thighs, etc.?

Chris Kresser: Next question from Nick. “Any suggestions for products or sprays for pregnant women experiencing yeast patches on stomach, thighs, etc.?”

Yes, I’d be pretty conservative because of the pregnancy and because skin is such a permeable barrier. The body didn’t evolve a system for differentiating or for distinguishing between friend or foe on the skin because there wasn’t really a need to in our evolutionary environment. Humans were putting stuff on their skin, and so we didn’t really evolve an effective kind of judgment of what can come in and can’t come in, so you have to be very careful about what you apply on your skin. I think a good option here could be Lauricidin cream. We talked about Lauricidin in the antimicrobial protocol for fungal overgrowth. They also have a topical form of it, and this is monolaurin or lauric acid, which I think is quite safe. It’s an extract of a fatty acid that’s found in coconut products, also in mother’s milk, and so I think that it can be pretty helpful in this situation and wouldn’t pose any threat to the developing baby.
