Chris Kresser: Well, if you already know she is hypoglycemic in a fasted state, then you don’t necessarily need to put her through that. If you want to see what happens to her blood sugar in response to meals, like if she is having reactive hypoglycemia, you could just have her test just before she eats, then one hour after she eats, and then two hours after she eats. Then if she eats right away after two hours, then that’s it. You can still get some useful information from that data.

- A patient is using a glucometer for the first time. She has Hashimoto’s and hypoglycemia. She has some anxiety around the fasting that is required to get started but is set to give it a try next week. How important is this fasting, and with hypoglycemia, do you adapt it? Her question is what time of night does she need to start, and how long does she need to fast? Since the birth of her son five years ago, which triggered her thyroid, night eating has been a regular part of her life. Eating AIP has her feeling more satiated, and this is why she feels up to the challenge.
