What is your most current understanding of this form of the vitamin?

Dr. Amy Nett: I know that tocotrienols are the way forward, but as with so many multi’s, they still have the tocopherols. So yeah, I would agree that, you know, we don’t generally recommend long-term supplementation with tocopherols. We prefer tocotrienols. Even then, we’re probably not going to be doing truly long-term supplementation, and, you’re right, most of the multivitamins do contain tocopherols rather than tocotrienols.

So most of the vitamins are not optimal for long-term use, but they’re available for, you know, short-term use, I think when needed, and we’ve talked about before, like when people are just on a very limited diet, maybe in a prenatal setting, something like that, but yeah, I agree, there’s not a clear answer and a lot of variation in those. So hopefully there’s some clarity, but yeah, not a clear answer for you.
