Dr. Amy Nett: Supplementing for migrating motor complex and motility—if that’s the question, I think you have to wait and see after you treat SIBO if you can actually restore normal GI motility. For a lot of people, SIBO might come about in part due to injury to the normal migrating motor complex or otherwise difficulty with motility, but oftentimes after treatment you’ll actually see a restoration of normal GI motility. That’s one of the reasons we don’t always feel that we need to do a prokinetic, and you may not need a prokinetic long term.
