Response from Laura Schoenfeld:
Technically, yes. I’d say most people that are doing the 30-day reset are going to be fine having some kombucha and coconut aminos. Kombucha is something that I would warrant some caution with. It’s really easy to go overboard with kombucha, especially if someone is using it as a replacement for other beverages such as soda or other sweetened beverages. A lot of the commercial kombuchas that are available are actually supposed to be at least two servings per bottle, so if you have somebody that is drinking an entire kombucha every day and technically getting two servings a day, I’ve seen some issues with that. I’ve seen gut issues from maybe getting too many bacterial strains, or there are some byproducts of bacterial fermentation that I think if they get too much of those in a single setting or a single week there can be some reactions to that.
Coconut aminos are totally fine for most people during the reset. If somebody has histamine intolerance, so if they tend to have bad gut symptoms or if they get things like hives or migraines or anything that could potentially line up with histamine intolerance, I would not use coconut aminos just because the way that aminos work is that they just have a bunch of different amino acids and they may have some histamine-producing amino acids in the coconut aminos.
