Full-blown type 2 I described is distinguished from type 1 because it is not autoimmune mediated or is that type 1.5?

Dr. Amy Nett:  Yeah, so diabetes type 1 is autoimmune mediated and it almost always begins in childhood or teenage years. It is autoimmune mediated. Very rarely I’ve seen it occur in patients in their 20s, and so that’s type 1 diabetes is autoimmune mediated. Type 1.5 diabetes is also autoimmune mediated, but different antibodies when compared with type 1 diabetes. It tends to occur later in adulthood and that’s called latent autoimmune diabetes of adulthood. Type 1.5 I don’t know if that’s an official, I don’t know if I’ve seen it in the literature. I’m not sure. But it’s sort of between type 2 and type 1 because type 2 diabetes again is due to this inflammation, stress on the or demand on the pancreas to constantly produce more insulin. And it’s thought not to be autoimmune mediated. Type 1 is clearly autoimmune mediated, onset early in life and then type 1.5 somewhere between there because it occurs in adulthood but is autoimmune mediated.
