Chris Kresser: It’s not really strictly part of practice management. This ADAPT course covers functional medicine, nutrition, and practice management. It doesn’t really cover practice building, which I would put podcasts and videos into that category, although I have talked about including videos in the email autoresponder as part of the practice management unit, so maybe it is part of it from that perspective. Evergreen is more what we included in the pre-course for practice building, and I think the content is done for that. I’d check with Keith, it’s really more his thing, but I will also consider doing a kind of brief thing on podcasts and videos.
Videos, I did some myself in the past, and now I have a videographer that I use when I record videos. That’s probably not the best way to start because it can be pretty expensive, but I can give you a few free resources that can be really helpful in terms of how to do your own videos and your own podcasts.
The first is Wistia. Wistia is like a video platform, kind of like Vimeo and YouTube, but it has a lot more features, really, really great features for video. I use it for a lot of the videos on sales pages and things like that. I think we’re using Vimeo within the ADAPT content portal, but Wistia is a really, really great platform. On their website and their blog, they have tons of free information—usually videos, of course—about how to record videos. They have really great tutorials on simple lighting setups and background ideas and things like that that are really great. That’s all free and you can check it out there.
The next thing that’s really helpful as a resource is called Rainmaker.FM. This is by Brian Clark. It’s an evolution of Copyblogger, which I also recommend. It’s information and resources for content marketing, which is what we’re talking about here in evergreen in terms of how to build your practice. They have switched to mostly a podcast-based platform instead of delivering written content. I mean, they still do that, but they’re really doubling down on audio as their main content delivery mechanism. They have a number of shows, podcasts, that are all basically designed to teach people, entrepreneurs and business owners, how to do content marketing in an ethical and effective way, and I think they have a show specifically on the nuts and bolts of podcasting. I’m just looking here at their website. I can’t remember what the show is off the top of my head [The Showrunner], but if you go to Rainmaker.FM, look around at their shows, and you’ll probably be able to figure out which one is that one, and you can just search their episode archives. I know that they’ve had shows specifically on the nuts and bolts of podcasting, like microphone choice and room setup and software and hosting and all that sort of thing, great free information out there.
