Do I have any good explanation for a patient having a rough time with Herxheimer reactions? Any research on it, suggestions on helping her through it?

Dr. Amy Nett:  Well, with patients having a hard time with, I’m just going to call it die-off or Herx reactions, there is a fair amount of research on Herxing. It might just be that it’s too much for the patient and you might just want to back off on the supplements that they’re doing. So let’s say it’s on the herbal antimicrobial protocol, they’re having a lot of these “die off” reactions. I would just decrease the dose until it’s more tolerable. You can have them even do five days on, two days off. You can have them do every other day dosing, and some people are just sensitive. The HSP, the highly sensitive person. Some people just can’t tolerate and it might be because of detox capacity, it might be because of co-infections, and it might just be because they have a really heavy burden of microbes that are being killed off and then triggering the immune system.

Okay next question from Jamie. Oh Jamie, I’m going to save this one for Chris because you’re asking about the whole herbs versus active constituents and I don’t have, I know you have the background in acupuncture and Chinese herbs. I do not. So I’m going to see if Chris has something more helpful to say on that one. So I’ll leave that one, but it’s not being ignored and you don’t need to resubmit it. We’ll just keep it there for you.
