Dr. Amy Nett: I wouldn’t do it the morning of, but patients are not going to be eating the morning of, so hopefully not. But you can use betaine the day before. Again, they should only be eating meat and white rice, pretty low quantities, but I think so. You can always double check with the company that you’re using, but I don’t think that there’s a restriction on betaine HCl the day before a SIBO breath test.
