Chris Kresser: Well, it really depends where that virtual assistant lives. I mean, one of the advantages of hiring people virtually is if you hire someone in North Carolina, you can just look at what the suggested pay range is for an office assistant in North Carolina, and then to some extent, typically when it’s a virtual position, the pay is a little bit less because there is a tradeoff. Most people prefer virtual work because they can sit at home in their pajamas, they don’t have to commute in traffic, they don’t have to spend two hours out of their day commuting to and from the office, and so most people are willing to accept a little bit less pay for a similar position when it’s virtual for those reasons. Check the pay range for where you think you might be hiring from, or check the national average and base it on that. You might find that you’re not going to get applicants who are living in San Francisco because it’s one of the most ridiculously expensive places to live in the world! But that’s fine. You don’t need the person to live in San Francisco if it’s a virtual position, and that’s one of the advantages to this model that we’re talking about.
