What is the recommended dose of curcumin and phosphatidylserine?

Dr. Amy Nett:  Curcumin, remember, there are several different forms. So, the dose of curcumin, I think, is going to depend a little bit on the form that you’re using, whether it’s liposomal or the Longvida or a turmeric extract. Most of the bottles come with dosing information that I think is pretty reliable, but there can’t really be a standard dose recommendation, again because of the variability of all the different types of curcumin that are out there.

For phosphatidylserine, some of the studies actually look at doses of phosphatidylserine up to something like 400 or 800 mg per day. In the clinic, I generally use somewhere between about 200 to 300 mg per day in divided doses, so my favorite brand of phosphatidylserine is the one that Chris mentioned in this week’s content. It’s the soy-free phosphatidylserine from Integrative Therapeutics brand, and what I normally do is for the first one to two months, I’ll do three capsules of 100 mg, so I’ll do three of those capsules daily, so one capsule with each meal for the first one to two months, and then have the patient decrease to just 200 mg daily, so that’s just taking one capsule with breakfast and dinner. So, the recommended dose of phosphatidylserine, I think we see benefit with doses of around 200 to 300 mg daily in divided doses, but there appears to be safety in terms of increasing this as high as maybe 400 to 800 mg, but again, I haven’t really gone up to doses in that level.
