In Week 10, we got a handout of the pediatric botanical protocol for SIBO. Is this the same protocol we should use to treat parasites in pediatric patients? I’m having a hard time locating the CSA tincture. Where do you source that from?

Chris Kresser:  Yeah, it can still be effective for parasites. It depends on the age, and it depends on what type of parasite we’re talking about, but I would definitely start there. In general, with both adults and children, but especially with children, we want to start with the most benign treatment possible in terms of its effect on the gut microbiota.

 

The cryptolepis-sida-alchornea, or CSA, tincture can be obtained from Woodland Essence. That’s a company that specializes in botanical medicine, particularly related to the Buhner protocols for Lyme and babesia and tick-borne illness, but also for viral infections. I just mentioned Buhner and his work for herbal antivirals. And they do have the CSA tincture. CSA is a fantastic kind of herbal antibiotic. That’s the best way to think about that.
